#childrensmarch this saturday

The Northwest Philly Children’s March for Love & Justice was organized to help create a local, family-friendly event as a response to the tragic events and lack of justice in Ferguson, Cleveland, New York, and around the country.

This march is focused on working together to hold a child-friendly action in response to these events, to affirm the belief that #blacklivesmatter, and to plan peaceful activism around the systemic change needed for a more equitable and just society.

All attendees are asked to keep signs, slogans, and songs peaceful and child-friendly. This event is not anti-police; it is pro-justice. Please keep in mind that children as young as kindergarten can read signs, so plan accordingly, avoiding signs that may feel scary to young children.

Children are also encouraged to draw pictures and/or make their own signs or posters. We will have instruments, music and sign-making materials available at the gathering and during the march.

Families and allies interested in joining the short march should gather on the fields of the New Covenant Campus at 7500 Germantown Ave. at 1:30 pm on Saturday January 3. At 2pm, we plan to carry signs, sing songs, and make some child-friendly noise as we march down the Avenue along sidewalks to the Mt. Airy Playground.

Please help us keep everyone safe by ensuring that children are accompanied by an adult at all times and that marchers are following normal traffic-crossing procedures along the entire route.

There is on-street parking along Germantown Avenue in front of the New Covenant Campus, as well as some additional parking spots on campus. If parking on campus, please be sure to observe the parking guidelines.

We look forward to joining together to speak out, call for justice, and begin to work for change.
