Boating, lanterns and gardens: 5 family-fun events in Philly this weekend

This weekend Philly families have their pick of carnivals and festivals!

Sunday: Chestnut Hill Home and Garden Festival

It’s time for one of Northwest Philly’s favorite events! Music, food and loads of family friendly fun is what you’ll find at Chestnut Hill’s annual Home and Garden Festival. Free, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday: Barnes Arboretum

Spring is here and Barnes is in bloom! Whether having picnic or touring the exquisite gardens of the 12-acre arboretum the stunning views are sure to please. Admission $5, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday: Chinese Lantern Festival

Franklin Square has been set aglow! Boasting brilliant artist crafted displays, performances and food, this celebration of Chinese culture is not to be missed. Tickets adults: $17, children: $12. Friday and Saturday 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., Sunday 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Free during the daytime.

Friday and Saturday: St Gregory Church Carnival
Cotton candy, funnel cake and rides anyone? Get ready for some good old fashioned carnival fun at St Gregory’s Church annual carnival. Free entrance, ride ticket packages available for purchase. Friday 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Saturday: Free Boating On the Schuylkill River

Discover a love for boating! Bartram Gardens is offering free use of their boats to explore the Schuylkill river. All ages, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
